May 31, 2006 Running Scared by Anthony King
244 pages. Finished 05/07/06.
This is an interesting study of the campaign process. I used it as part of my paper on my internship in Washington last summer. It's one of my advisor's favorite books. Written by a Brit looking in on the US's exceptional (in terms of being the exception, not the rule) electoral system, King reveals some startling and not-so-startling facets of the permanent campaign for office in the United States. If you want to study Congress, start here.
