July 04, 2006 The Sorrows of Empire by Chalmers Johnson
312 pages. Finished 06/26/06.
The author of Blowback has come out with a new book about America's new political value - militarism. He makes a compelling argument about the rise of the empire of American military bases around the world and a strong critique of the Bush administration in particular. It's quite readable (unlike some of the other books that I have read for this intro class) and I'm looking forward to our class discussion on Thursday.
