May 16, 2011 The Breakup Club by Melissa Senate
I haven't read anything by Melissa Senate in almost a year and she can be very hit and miss. I loved my outing with her, so I figured this one might be a miss.
It's sort of neither. It was a quick read about four people who are randomly connected, but they don't realize it (and get to the title of the book) until the end of chapter 8. It seemed like there could have been four different books about the journeys of these folks, but it was mostly just glossed over. Newly single dad, learning to deal with his one-year-old and not hating his wife who left him. Woman who is about to get left by her husband. Her sister who won't let go of her last relationship. Woman who ran out on her own wedding. All interesting and yet, I didn't feel a connection to any of them. And thought they form a "club," they don't really have a connection to each other. The "club" randomly gets assigned a project at work that seems horrible, but then it turns out it's fine.
I read about half the book while I was getting a pedicure yesterday and finished it up at work during my lunch break, so it has that going for it, but overall, I just didn't care about any of the characters and it didn't seem like Senate did either.
